As I said before my sister sends me some brilliant emails…..this was no exception. I was going to write about the birds in our garden but decided to send this instead, coz it is so what I have to do with the verandah every day after pigeons have been!!
“I bought a bird feeder. I hung It on my back porch and filled
It with seed. What a beauty of A bird feeder it was, as I filled it
Lovingly with seed. Within a Week we had hundreds of birds
Taking advantage of the Continuous flow of free and Easily accessible food.
But then the birds started Building nests in the boards
Of the patio, above the table, And next to the barbecue.
Then came the poop. It was Everywhere: on the patio tile,
The chairs, the table ..Everywhere!
Then some of the birds Turned mean. They would Dive bomb me and try to Peck me even though I had
Fed them out of my own Pocket.
And others birds were Boisterous and loud. They Sat on the feeder and Squawked and screamed at
All hours of the day and night And demanded that I fill it When it got low on food.
After a while, I couldn’t even Sit on my own back porch Anymore.
So I took down the Bird feeder and in three days
The birds were gone. I cleaned Up their mess and took down
The many nests they had built All over the patio.
Soon, the back yard was like It used to be . Quiet, serene….
And no one demanding their Rights to a free meal.
Now let’s see…..
Our government gives out Free food, subsidized housing,
Free medical care and free Education, and allows anyone Born here to be an automatic Citizen.
Then the illegals came by the Tens of thousands.
Suddenly Our taxes went up to pay for Free services; small apartments Are housing 5 families;
you Have to wait 6 hours to be seen By an emergency room doctor;
Your child’s second grade class is Behind other schools because Over half the class doesn’t speak English.
Corn Flakes now come in a Bilingual box; I have to ‘press one ‘ to hear my bank
Talk to me in English, and People waving flags other Than our flag are
Squawking and screaming In the streets, demanding More rights and free liberties.
Just my opinion, but maybe it’s time for the government To take down the bird feeder.
If you agree, pass it on; if not, Continue cleaning up the poop.” end of….
Unfortunately, I have yet to figure out how to get rid of the blessed pigeons (any ideas?)… and then there are the squirrels! As cute as they are, they pee all over the verandah which drives me nuts!! excuse the pun 🙂
This is a very interesting metaphor for the problems of immigration but it does make a lot of sense…….
Hey Ivonne,
Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting.
whew! I sure stirred up a lot of feelings with this post. Blimey!!! as they say in good ole Blighty! I can’t take credit for it, though I did think it was quite funny. I think my sister is going to be either appalled or amused that I posted it. She sends me some very funny and sometimes some very controversial emails. I think this fell into the latter!! But, it is a touchy subject and it is a problem….. I don’t care one way or another who lives where so long as they contribute. My beef with the current situation is that many of the people who are supposedly immigrating into this country end up living off benefits and I work 28days a month to pay taxes for them to do so! and that annoys the heck out of me, as well as which there are thousands of ‘legals’ working here who don’t declare their income and don’t pay tax. Mind you there are a fair number of citizens born and bred who are ripping the benefit system off big time too…..and that really annoys me. I guess this has touched a nerve!
Take care honey, lovely to hear from you.
hugs……
Cindy
Great post and great analogy.
It really bugs me how when I mention stuff like this, I’m considered a racist, when the reality is far from it. I’ve never judged a person based on where they come from or the colour of their skin, I only judge on what it is they do. And the fact is these immigrants have destroyed MY country and driven me out to the colonies.
Not that I don’t like Australia, I really do love it here and think it is one of the best places to live in the world. But it’s not ‘home’ and the problem is, neither is England anymore. The fact that Curry is now considered the National dish and is available in fish n chip shops, disturbs me beyond belief. Even the mention of the word Curry angers me. People here don’t understand why but to me it represents what has been lost.
But now I’m the intruder in another country and am all too aware of it. This why I’ve gone to such lengths to become Australian and live the Australian way. What kind of person would I be to come into another mans country and start telling them to change the way they live to suite me?
But the “Birdfeeder Effect” is part of a much bigger problem that is devouring the Western world. It these bleeding heart, Dudley Doright, politically correct ***********! Before any of these problems can be fixed we must first erradicate them from our society so that we are free to do what needs to be done… Take down the Bird Feeder!
Hi James,
wow!!! seems I created a bit of a storm with this post! It was meant to be a bit of a tongue in cheek post!!
I am sure you will have seen my response to Tommy’s comment. It does seem a shame to me that anyone has to feel driven out of their communities. I have the same problem with the word ‘racist’ – as you can imagine, coming from South Africa where the white South African is now no longer a desirable, and any mention of anything negative towards the current situation is viewed as racist. I am trying to be as delicate as possible here….. However, as I said to Tommy…. my philosophy is acceptance and tolerance. The shame of it is that these situations happen at all. What a wonderful world it would be if no-one felt an outcast and we all just accept the differences, celebrated and gained from them. But then I am a dreamer and realise that is virtually impossible, coz the reality is that one way or another, in one country or another….as history has shown…civilisations wax and wane and one becomes stronger than another. With the open borders of today it is inevitable that there will be an influx of undesirables no matter who they are or which country they come from or go to. The sad thing is that most folks are really nice and their cultures could add to the fabric rather than take away. The term ‘rainbow nation’ was coined at the time of change in SA, and it would be wonderful if it was totally true….however, in reality it is not. It has now gone in reverse.
I do agree with Tommy though, that our governments appear to be bending over backwards…. and I do wonder why? Yes, Australia and England and America for that matter are Christian countries and I disagree totally that many of the traditions of these countries are being negated for fear of offending another. Like not allowing the singing of hymns or reading the bible in schools, that is just bizarre to me. One of these days the ‘powers that be’ (you can insert a less polite term here) will ban Xmas!!! Politically correct? I think not…rather a form of lunacy has taken hold. Why do we have to ‘do away with’ why not just incorporate and rejoice in what we learn. The fabric of society could be enriched and woven into a blanket of many colours that we could all benefit from.
Btw… if I admit that I love curry 🙂 will you still be my friend?
Thanks for dropping by and I appreciate your comment.
Warm regards
Cindy
A very clever analogy indeed!
I think our Governments are either asleep on the job, have another agenda entirely that does not include our safety and protection or social and economic welfare, or they are just plain moronic idiots, which in itself is extremely dangerous for all of us…!
Us who, you may ask… ‘US’ the people, the English and Australian people, and the US Americans also, who are the real stakeholders in our nations.
Now, I am an Australian and I watched with interested perplexity the inaugural swearing-in of our new ‘elected’ government’s first parliamentary sitting as it was broadcast yesterday (Tuesday 28th Sept 2010) on television, with our very first Female Prime Minister Julia Gillard.
http://www.sbs.com.au/news/article/1353372/Julia-Gillard-sworn-in-as-Australian-PM
There was also a big yahooy as Ken Wyatt was sworn in as our first ever indigenous Member of Parliament (MP), who arrived dressed in traditional ceremonial aboriginal attire. I’m all for that and it’s probably well overdue.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/programmes/2010/09/100928_outlook_ken_wyatt.shtml
However, I was then absolutely outraged and appalled beyond words when equal attribution and accolade was given, as the naïve media proudly reported, ‘A momentous occasion as Ed Husic was sworn in with his hand on the Quran (Koran) as the first Muslim elected to Australia’s parliament.’
How dare they… our government I mean! How absolutely dare they have a Muslim as an Australian Member of Parliament and totally dishonour and disgrace our entire heritage by allowing the ‘Koran’ to be substituted for the ‘Holy Bible’, the book that our entire democratic nation and heritage is founded on, whether you accept it or not.
Would the same accolades and attribution be given to the first Buddhist, the first Krishna, the first Seik, the first Pagan, the first Jew, even the first Mormon or Seventh Day Adventist, Evangelist or Satanist!? Why are we bowing down to these oppressive people, what is the hold they have on our overly politically correct governments and our own values.
Australia is part of the British Commonwealth, which was distinctly founded as an ‘Anglo Christian Democratic’ society and operating system of socialist Parliament. We are not an Islamic nation; we are not even anywhere close to being an Islamic nation. Islam opposes everything our society and system stands for. How dare they allow their pathetic cowardly insecurities, attitudes and actions based on the possibility they may offend some minority group who clearly show no respect for our nation, our cultures or laws. How dare they impose upon ‘us’ the people of Australia, their inadequacies to stand up and face the reality of a cult of people who openly declare they have no other agenda but to subjugate us until we are over-taken by Islam to the point they can freely oppress us with their sadistic and draconian laws of punishment, torture and murder. And how poignant is it that this so called ‘Australian Muslim MP’ should choose to swear-in as a member of our democratic nation’s parliament, which is founded and operates under the fundamentals of Christianity, holding his hand on the book that is the very symbol of our nemesis.
I am far more than appalled, I am outraged and angry beyond words, and make no mistake, I will be sending a letter to our government expressing my abhorrence for their thoughtless, cowardly and dishonourable act.
I sadly believe it is all over for ‘us’. Clearly no one of consequence is paying any attention to what is taking place in Iran and the Middle East now. Islam is clearly and genuinely gearing-up and deliberately provoking a war against ‘us’. There is no doubt or argument about it; they have stated it loudly at the sitting of the United Nations and other world congregations in the past three weeks. How much more explicit do they have to be before our deaf and clearly dumb governments hear what they are saying?
Lock up your daughters people, Islam is coming to plunder, slaughter, rape and pillage and make slaves of us all.
Good luck trying to take down the Bird Feeder, the birds are about to take ‘us’ down!
Hi Tommy,
wow! clearly you have very strong feelings about this…..and I have no doubt as to why. I must just say that I can’t take credit for the analogy….it is from an email sent to me by my sister, and actually found it quite amusing. As for myself….I have no argument with anyone or their religion and accept that we all have our own beliefs, and this post was more to do with the overwhelming influx of illegal immigrants that end up becoming dependent on the state, for whom we end up paying taxes to support. That annoys the heck out of me, since I work 28 days a month to pay my taxes that are so hefty and those folk get housing and benefits. I don’t care who lives where, so long as they contribute positively and behave decently. Sadly this is not the case.
I do agree with you though that for some very strange and bizarre reason the western governments are following what is to me a very strange course of action. It would seem that they are almost afraid to be seen as ‘politically incorrect’ to term a popular phrase and acceding beyond the point of what would be logical. Certainly I think we all have a part to play in society and I don’t think one religion is any worse than another…..it is rather the fanatical fundamentalists that make them so. One of my favourite songs of all time is ‘Imagine’ by John Lennon…he truly has a point. Personally; I am not in any way religious and steer clear of religion. I have been heard to say it should be banned coz of the trouble it causes. But that is entirely my feeling and I certainly do not hold it against another if they feel differently. I lean towards the Buddist philosophy myself as it teaches peace and acceptance. If we look back in history, one civilization or another has upsurped and invaded other countries for centuries, and neither Christianity nor Catholicism are innocent in their impositions, no matter how well intentioned.
It is a shame that we are unable to accept one another’s beliefs and live in a world without borders, but I very much doubt that will ever be so. Not that I am a pessimist, rather that history has proved beyond doubt that when religion (and politics) rear their ugly heads…all hell breaks loose. (excuse the very bad pun).
I can’t but help wondering what life would be like if we all just put aside our own dogmatic views and celebrated the differences rather than fighting them.
I look forward to the day when the ‘world could live as one’ …as the man said!
As for Iran… he has got the political world by the short and curlies and don’t they just know it. No-one dares to invade Iran…Iraq was a soft target and an excuse for revenge. However, having said that…their ‘leader’ who was originally supported by the Western Governments, deserved to go. I just don’t agree with the way it was done. I think it is such a shame we can’t all just celebrate our differences and get on with enjoying this marvellous planet of ours. So much more fun.
Thanks for your comment, I appreciate that you took the time to do so.
regards Cindy

Holy moly you are RUFFLING FEATHERS!!! excuse the pun! 🙂
