according to the paper this morning four of only eight remaining northern white rhinos have been transported from a zoo in the Czech Republic to a Kenyan game park in an attempt to save the subspecies.
The two males and two females were flown to the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, 300km (180 miles) north of the capital, Nairobi, where it is hoped they will reproduce – something they have refused to do in captivity.
“The objective is to get as many offspring as you can from the females – at least one calf out of each within two years”, said Rob Brett, the director of Fauna and Flora International.
