I finished knitting this little matinee jacket for my soon to be born grandson πβΊ

6 weeks before he was born I completed the jacket. This little item was one of many little cardigans and jackets I knitted for his layette. I love knitting and it was such a joy to prepare these little items for him.
When my daughter was a baby, I knitted a full set of dress, jacket and bootees in green, using the same pattern. Continuity. I’ve still got the set in storage.
And continuing with the same pattern, I knitted a blanket for my daughter. It was meant to have been knitted while she was in labour, but as it turned out, the birth went very differently to what we anticipated and I participated in his birth right from the first contractions till he took his first breath.
And so the blanket took a tad longer than expected….like 18 months longer. But eventually it was done

It’s now being used for when he goes out in his pram
Very nice. I never learned to knit.
Thank you. I was lucky that my Mother taught me, and we also learned in school for home economics. I find it very relaxing and rewarding.
I crochet but never caught on to knitting.
Ahhh you see now I had the opposite…although I learned to crochet, I never quite got into it π
Yay! Knitting is my happy hobby. I always have a project or two on the needles. Just finishing up my Christmas knitting and then it’s on to something for myself.
Oh how awesome. Admittedly I haven’t done anything christmassy yet…I should give it a go. π
Still have time! π
ππππ not really. Next year
So adorable these images are π
Thank you so much for sharing and knitting is something different for us here in tropics…
Have a great day π
Awwww thank you βΊ How so is knitting different for you? I’m intrigued.
You too
I mean, we don’t do much of knitting here π
But, we have many here who follows hand weaving in the traditional manner …
As you might have heard about the caste system in India, some communities are assigned with some particular livelihood methods, crafts etc;
So, there is a particular community who is supposed to get engaged in weaving… Our society is far too complicated π
Ahhhh yes, of course, weaving….a fascinating craft and something I wish I had time for. Caste system aside, it is a wonderful skill to have. I hope their skills are appreciated.
Yes, communities….it does get so complicated and yet we are all the same. We have the same organs, we bleed red blood, we breathe….and yet somehow segregation has occurred. Its upsetting and I loathe any kind of class system. I deal with it a lot in my job as a carer for the elderly. We are considered to be less than because we provide a service. People in this country have a very skewed attitude towards the service industry. I refuse to work for anyone who has the title Lord or Lady in front of their names….they invariably think they’re better than the next person. It annoys me tremendously. Now if they could be useful and learn a skill or craft besides drinking posh wine and fancy food or the swooning over the latest fashions, they might actually contribute something useful to society. π
I couldn’t agree more with your views π
Our country suffered a lot with this caste system and still suffering from it.
The politicians leverage from it and uses it to retain their hold on power.
Luckily, I live in this small state named Kerala, where the impact of caste system is least now.
The role of missionaries in education and industry in the 18th and 19th centuries, the work of some great social reformers in 19th and till mid 20th century and finally the role of progressive left parties contributed towards it.
Thank you so much for taking your time and sharing your thoughts with us all π
Its a shocking aspect of mankind. History tells us that it’s not unique to society and as far back as records go, at some point when people began to settle and form communities, a system of segregation started to be formed. Earlier people lived in groups and everyone contributed equally depending on their skills. But once they started to develop, so a hierarchy started being formed. We see this type of thing in most developed/developing countries; China, Africa, America, UK. As soon as one group begins to believe that they are better than another, regardless of wealth, skin colour, sex, religion, is when this hierarchy and system of segregation becomes the norm. As for politicians, they should be rounded up and put on a ship to nowhere π Lets hope that our societies can continue to develop and grow towards a more fair and equal world, with no borders. I appreciate your reply. Enjoy your day
